How can we exist sustainably? How can we build healthy and vibrant community? Here and Now is the answer. Many people flee the urban centres for solace in remote rurual tranquils areas. This activity has its place and role in our society. However, we cannot all leave the cities and move to the countryside, and if we do there will be no longer any country side. We are already experiencing this today. So what is the solution?
Transfigure our mental conception of what a city is Here and Now! To that end of am developing the concept of The Urban Ashram at my home studio. Day, weekend and longer retreats will be held starting Saturday July 25th and 26th with two silent retreats with meditation, yoga, healthy food, generative dialogue and dharma talks. The cost per day for these two 8 am to 8 pm days are $60.
The Urban Ashram is a concept for making our cities truly our homes, placing our roots firmly Here and Now. One of the key elements is to engage directly in the production of food in the city; taking up lawns and replacing the area with mixed gardens of fruit trees, vines and canes; annual, perennial and medicinal flowers;herbs; and vegetables. A Shovel Team will be organized to start re-planting our cities, one plant at a time.
An essential element of the urban transfiguration is building a spiritual relationship with where we live. That of course starts within our bodies, our home and residence for the life we have been gifted to live. Once a firm spiritual understanding is taking hold within us, we can start to externalize and spread the spiritual relationship to our Earth, our community, our Home. The Urban Ashram provides the venue to cultivate this deep and meaningful connection within ourselves using our silent retreats, yoga classes and food workshops.
